Each manufacturer advises as much as possible the cleaning of air conditioners, even the warranty on the device is conditioned by the annual service or extended during the annual service. The advice follows from two very important factors, the first is the cleanliness of the air in the room, and the other purity of the device that allows the uninterrupted flow of air and the operation of the device.

Air quality as the most important factor for the user who lives in the room depends on the quality and purity of the filters in the indoor unit of the air conditioner. When it comes to split systems, there is no air exchange with an external unit, and the external air does not affect the internal. It follows that the cause of poorer air quality in the room is poor, and sometimes no cleaning of the filters in the indoor unit. On dirty filters, microorganisms (bacteria) accumulate in this case. Depending on the filter, the purpose of the room and the number of smokers in it is to filter some filters weekly, monthly, yearly. More needs to be taken into account if the user has allergies (dust, home bacteria ...), sensitive sinuses ...

Humid, dirty and dark spots within the air conditioners favor the propagation of bacteria, molds and fungi.

Every year, in addition to the regular washing of filters, an annual service must be done when the external and internal unit is completely cleaned and disinfected. Thus, the indoor unit is disinfected (clean) of the dirt, bacteria of the microorganisms that passed the filters of the indoor unit and kept on the exchanger.

Serving does not need, as it usually does, to wait for unpleasant odor or worse cooling or heating. Service, in general, makes a small number of users on time, mostly because of ignorance of the purpose and danger.

When people who spend a long time in a closed air-conditioned area often have health problems that are most often associated with air quality and microclimate in that area. The terms most commonly associated with air quality in a closed air-conditioned area are "Legionnaire disease" and "Sickle Building Syndrome".

Non-sustained ventilation and air conditioning systems are the ideal place for propagation and spread of bacteria legionella. Growth and multiplication is favorable for temperatures of 25 to 44 degrees Celsius, inorganic and organic pollution, and water retention in the system.

For this reason, before the cooling season, general cleaning and disinfection of air conditioners is necessary. Depending on the conditions in which the device works, it is necessary to clean it at least once a year, primarily for hygienic reasons, because in a supercritical air conditioner it can be a source of various diseases and allergies.

The concept of hygiene of air conditioners can be defined as a set of measures and activities that are undertaken in order to make the surface of the air conditioners through which the air flow is satisfactory, preferably microbiological purity, that is, the number of bacteria on the surface of the air conditioner is below the permitted infective level, and that people who stay in indoor air-conditioned areas of protection against diseases and allergies that may be caused by micro-organisms with contaminated air from dirty air conditioners.
